The Making of LV-426

Before

The first step was to get rid of all traces of beige. A nice black and silver paint job does the trick. Thanks to a Christmas present of vouchers, I got the paint for free.

Spray Painting

The silver looked a little too bright, so it's been given a very light coat of black paint to tone it down. The power and reset switches have also been given a paint job.

Looking good :)

A large section was cut out of the inner (steel) side panel and a transparent plastic window glued on. The glue sets to a dark green, so I've used it around the edges of the window to give it an alien hive look. The window has been given a light frosting to make it slightly opaque, but will still get out most of the light.

Stencils were created by printing onto white card, and cutting out the letters.

Can ya tell what it is yet?

Using a hacksaw, files, elbow-grease and some time, a hole was created in the plastic side panel, to match the inner steel sheet's window. I roughened the edges and applied glue around the edges for the hive effect.

Looking significantly better with the glue...

The stencils have now been used on the two side panels.

Terraforming

Random left-overs from another case make suitable covers to stealth the drives with.

Just needs some Velcro...

The most expensive modification so far - some Lego-style Alien figures!

Ain't he a cutie?
